10.15.12 - Springfield, IL - The North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) choose NAVTEQ data for Research Project "Road Network Distance Application
Springfield IL - NAACCR has partnered with experts in geographic information system (GIS) technology from the Texas A & M University, Dr. Daniel W. Goldberg, and members of the NAACCR GIS Committee to develop a software package for NAACCR member registries, the “Road Network Distance Application,” that processes batches of patient records supplied by population based cancer registries in the United States and Canada. This application outputs multiple measures of driving time and distance travel by car between the patient’s residence and the health care facilities visited for cancer diagnosis and treatment. In short, this project will investigate whether a patient’s travel time and distance to obtain his or her cancer screening and treatment has an effect on outcomes such as stage at diagnosis. NAACCR would also like to thank our partners, NAVTEQ and GIS Solutions, Inc. (Springfield, Illinois). This project would not be possible without their expertise and data file.

08.01.12 - Springfield, IL -Springfield School District 186 Selects GIS Solutions' School Locator.
SPRINGFIELD, IL -Springfield School District 186 is now using GIS Solutions' School Locator to match addresses to school boundaries within District 186. The School Locator is a user friendly, hosted website that answers questions regarding school boundaries and assignments through address geocoding for both public school districts and private schools - saving staff time and money. The School Analyst is powered by Esri technology (ArcGIS Web API for Flex) and uses Bing maps for display.
Users can go to the School Locator and type in an address. The system then locates, or “geocodes”, that address and discovers school boundaries in which that address falls. School Locator includes all types of schools – kindergarten through high school – as well as neighborhood, magnet, charter, and private schools. Information on each school is also provided, such as grades served, location and contact information. Additionally every school can be looked up directly by name.
The system itself takes advantage of the latest technology in mapping through Esri. It also takes advantage of the latest in “cloud” architecture, utilizing services provided by Bing Maps as well as the hosting capabilities of Amazon Web Services. Thus, not only is School Locator highly available, but also highly functional.
Through School Locator, anytime day or night the public can simply interact with the map to discover what locations fall within which school boundaries - no lengthy phone calls with school district personnel.
